![]() Alfred Sisley |
From Art Institute of Chicago:
Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted this portrait of his fellow Impressionist Alfred Sisley at their friend Claude Monet's house in Argenteuil. Although artists’ portraits and self-portraits often include professional attributes, such as a palette and brushes, here the emphasis is on the gentleness and elegance that were part of the sitter’s character. The work was shown in the third of the Impressionists’ group exhibitions, held in 1877.
